Ivan Rodriguez enjoyed four All-Star seasons in Detroit.
Maybe his son will provide the encore.
The Tigers claimed pitcher Dereck Rodriguez off waivers from the Giants on Monday. Rodriguez, who was 11 years old when Pudge signed with Detroit in 2004, will report to the club's alternate training site in Toledo.
Rodriguez, 28, had a strong rookie season for the Giants in 2018. The right-hander produced a 2.81 ERA over 21 appearances (19 starts) and look poised for big things moving forward.
But it's been downhill from there. He had a 5.64 ERA over 28 appearances (16 starts) last season, and the Giants let him go after two poor outings this season.
If Rodriguez can rediscover his control, he could be a good find for the Tigers. For now, he'll be an insurance arm in Toledo.
