A.J. Hinch is going to remain the manager of the Detroit Tigers for “a long time,” according to multiple reports.

President of Baseball Operations Scott Harris announced a long-term extension Monday at the Winter Meetings in Nashville. Harris didn’t disclose the terms of the deal.

Hinch was previously under contract through the 2025 season. The new deal was reportedly reached shortly after the conclusion of this season, which was the Tigers’ best in seven years.

After a second-place finish in 2023 -- albeit with a slightly under .500 record -- the Tigers are 221-265 over three seasons under Hinch, who's still searching for the same success he had with the Houston Astros, where he won a World Series and three division titles in five seasons.

A week after this season ended, Hinch doubled down on his commitment to the team, saying “I love where we’re at.”

"And I said this to our team the day we were eliminated (from playoff contention), that I’ve never been more encouraged to be a Tiger,” Hinch said at the time.

Also on Monday the Tigers shared their 2024 coaching staff, adding Joey Cora, Anthony Iapoce, Ryan Sienko and Lance Zawadski to new roles with the club.

Hinch's reported extension comes as the Tigers look to finish the transition from “rebuild” to “playoff team.” With a good young core of hitters like Spencer Torkelson, Riley Greene and Kerry Carpenter emerging in 2023, Detroit last week added a veteran arm in Kenta Maeda in hopes of stabilizing the young rotation.
