Zach McKinstry appeared to have stolen the show Sunday at Comerica Park to help the Tigers finally halt their losing streak and avoid a sweep against the Diamondbacks.
McKinstry hit a 2-run homer in the fourth inning, but it was two innings later that McKinstry made the highlight of the day, diving on the right field warning track near the foul pole to catch Christian Walker’s flyball to end the inning.
But then Jason Foley allowed four runs in the ninth inning as Arizona took a 7-5 lead and held on for their 40th win of the season.
The Tigers threatened to rally in the bottom of the inning after a lead-off pinch-hit triple by Andy Ibáñez, but Nick Maton bounced out to second to leave Detroit still searching for its first win in the month of June.
Their 9-game losing streak is the club's longest since the 2020 season.
