The Detroit Tigers covered as a run-line underdog (+1.5) in their final road game of the 2023 season, a 2-0 win over the Oakland Athletics. It was their 41st win against the run line in road games without rest, i.e., playing a road game one day after their previous game (either road or home).

Their 41 wins (to only 27 losses) produced a run-line return on investment (ROI) of 20%, the second-highest in MLB betting in 2023 (Baltimore Orioles, 28%).

Plus odds were critical in racking up the winnings — nearly a $1,400 profit for a bettor that wagered $100 on each of those 68 games. The Tigers covered the run line 20 times in which the odds were +100 or greater, including nine times at +130 or greater.

That helped produce the seventh-highest ROI over the last 15 full seasons:

Orioles (2023): 28%

Cardinals (2016): 26.5%

Astros (2017: 25.2%

Cardinals (2016): 22.7%

Royals (2014): 22.4%

Guardians (2021): 20.9%

Tigers (2023): 20%

The Tigers’ first opportunity within this betting trend this season will come on March 31, against the Chicago White Sox. It’s the third game of the season, but the first road game without rest.

Run lines and more odds will be available at the BetMGM online sportsbook for that game and every other game this season. If you don’t have a BetMGM account, check out the BetMGM Michigan promo code for new customers.
