Tigers lose Cabrera, Teheran in costly weekend

It's been a rough weekend in Cleveland for the Tigers.

Not only has Detroit dropped the first two games of the series, the club has also lost two of its key players to injuries.

First Julio Teheran was scratched from his start on Friday with triceps tightness. Then on Saturday Miguel Cabrera appeared to tweak his arm at the plate.

On Sunday morning, the Tigers announced Cabrera is going to the 10-day IL with a left biceps strain and Teheran is being moved from the 10-day to the 60-day IL with a right shoulder strain.

The diagnosis is concerning for Cabrera, who missed most of the 2018 season with a ruptured left biceps. He had three hits in 24 at-bats (.125) with a homer and three RBI through seven games this year.

The Tigers called up 1B Renato Nunez from the alternate site to take Cabrera's place on the roster.

In the rotation, A.J. Hinch said Michael Fulmer will fill the spot of Teheran.

Detroit and Cleveland finish their three-game set Sunday at 1:10.
