21-year-old Nicaraguan pitcher Duque Hebbert made a name for himself Monday in the World Baseball Classic -- and didn't waste time cashing in.
After striking out superstars Juan Soto, Julio Rodriguez and Rafael Devers in the ninth inning of his team's loss to the Dominican Republic, Hebbert got paid on the spot by the Detroit Tigers.
According to ESPN, a scout on hand for the Tigers at Miami's LoanDepot Park asked Hebbert a series of questions after the game and then signed him to a minor-league contract.
The 5'9 right-hander used sinkers and sliders in the low-90's and changeups in the mid-80's to strike out the side in his lone inning of work, per ESPN. His manager Sandor Guido called his performance "extraordinary."
"He showed what he is made of," Guido said. "When you have will, when you have heart, you can do very good things."
Soon, we'll see what he can do with the Tigers.
