Shortly after collecting the first hit of his MLB career on Tuesday, Spencer Torkelson chatted with a few reporters in front of his locker and said with quiet confidence, "I feel like I belong here. And I feel like I'm seeing the ball great. As long as I trust myself, everything is going to follow."
We take you to Wednesday afternoon, in a drizzle at Comerica Park, Torkelson facing Red Sox reliever Austin Davis in the seventh inning. Here comes a 94 mph fastball from Davis, and there it goes, soaring 396 feet over the left field fence.
"Watch it flyyyyy -- GONE!" Dan Dickerson called on 97.1 The Ticket. "Spencer Torkelson with a bomb to left!! Home run No. 1!"
Torkelson, who entered Wednesday 1-13 in the majors, added a single in the eighth for the first multi-hit game of his career. Maybe this is the game that gets him going.
"One day fixes all of this," A.J. Hinch told 97.1 The Ticket Wednesday morning. "Maybe it's today, maybe it's tomorrow, maybe it's a month that it takes him to get ready, I don't care. I want him to do better faster, but at the same time, it doesn't label him as anything until we get into the boat."
