If the lack of runs scored by the Tigers this season has been a concern for you, you could hardly be blamed. The team entered Sunday’s series finale at Colorado ranked 28th in MLB with just 313 runs.

But Detroit played nothing like that team Sunday, exploding for a season-high 14 runs in a win powered by two grand slams.

Javier Baez got the home run party started early with a first-inning grand slam. And that party kept going strong all day.

Kerry Carpenter hit a three-run homer in the third, Jake Rogers hit a solo shot in the fourth and Spencer Torkelson hit a two-run blast in the seventh.

Jake Marisnick got in on the fun when his eighth-inning grand slam all but put the game out of reach at 14-6. The Rockies would go on to add three more in the eighth.

The Tigers hadn’t cracked double digits since last Sept. 29 against the Royals. And they hadn’t put up 14 since June 18, 2022 against Texas.
