Trevor Story talks elbow injury

When word surfaced that the Red Sox were heavily interested in then-free agent infielder Trevor Story, one question kept bubbling up to the surface: How was Story's elbow?
While Story did play in 141 games the season before with Colorado, he spent much of the final four months dealing with an ailment to his throwing arm, which ultimately was diagnosed as a flexor strain.
Story has had his share of ailments during his first season with the Red Sox - missing time due to sickness, a hand/wrist injury and, currently an ankle ailment - but the elbow has never seemed to be a hinderance.
"I did a lot of work in the offseason. Really just readjusted my routine, get locked on that. That has helped a lot. .. There is a lot that goes into it," Story told the Bradfo Sho podcast. "Can’t just say it’s one thing. Really just reworked my routine. Yeah, man, I feel really good about it now. Last year was a tough year."
Story explained that he first felt the discomfort after making a late-May throw last season, needing to ultimately find a plan of attack only after an uncomfortable second half.
"Just kind of grinded through it after that," he said, remembering the pain of 2021. "We had pictures in the offseason and kind of reassess. Just finding ways to rebuild it and getting back to where I feel good about my arm. Just getting the right plan of attack and sticking to it."
But while Story currently seems to be in a good place with his right arm, it had still been a work in progress throughout those first few months with the Red Sox.
"Build up and build up and spring was crazy," said Story, who signed late in spring training and then had to take time off for the birth of his first child. "A little interrupted and not so smooth. But I think once we got a full month, two months into the season I was feeling pretty good."
He added, "We did our homework. Just talking to players, talking to pitchers, and talking to different people who have had that injury … Everyone had the same sentiment.
"I knew I had put the work in. Usually, when I put my mind to something and stick to it I’m going to see the results."
