It remains to be seen who will take the field for the Tigers at the MLB All-Star Game later this month. But when the prospects play the Futures Game a few days prior at Dodger Stadium, the Tigers will have a catcher and a pitcher in action.
Dillon Dingler and Wilmer Flores got the call for Detroit when MLB announced the Futures Game rosters Thursday. Both are currently with Double-A Erie.
A second-round pick in 2020 and the Tigers' top position player prospect in the minors, Dingler is hitting .240 with a .725 OPS this season. He has seven homers and 37 RBI in 67 games and ranks as Detroit's No. 3 prospect overall.
Undrafted out of junior college in 2020, Flores might be the most electric pitcher in the Tigers' farm system. The hard-throwing righty has a 2.30 ERA across High-A and Double-A this season, with 85 strikeouts to 10 walks in 58.2 innings.
The seven-inning Futures Game will be held Saturday, July 16 at 7 p.m. and broadcast live on Peacock and SiriusXM.
The All-Star Game will follow at Dodger Stadium the ensuing Tuesday.
