Justin Verlander has picked up his 100th career win at Comerica Park.
Sadly for Tigers fans, the last three have come in a different uniform.
After failing to get to No. 100 earlier this year when the Mets came to town, Verlander delivered this time around for the Astros on Sunday. He allowed just two hits with seven strikeouts across five innings of work as Houston thumped Detroit 17-4.
His two highly anticipated matchups against longtime teammate Miguel Cabrera ended with a backwards K on a curveball up in – or perhaps even out of – the zone, and a fielder’s choice. Verlander exited with a 3-0 lead after five.
JV and Miggy tipped their caps to each other during Cabrera's second-inning at-bat.
With the game out of reach, Cabrera would go on to reach a milestone of his own, hitting his 510th career home run, his third of the year.
It was a three-run shot into the left-center field bullpen off Phil Maton, brother of Tigers’ infielder Nick Maton.
With 32 games left in his Hall-of-Fame career, Cabrera sits one home run behind 25th on the all-time list of HR leaders, currently occupied by Mel Ott.
The Astros tied a franchise record with 25 hits on Sunday.
