The Tigers were one of 11 teams scouting Yoenis Cespedes' showcase workout in Fort Pierce, Fla., on Tuesday, according to the New York Post.
The workout, which lasted just under an hour, saw Cespedes take fly balls in both left field and center field, and then take batting practice for about 20 minutes.
The two-time All-Star played 102 games for the Tigers in 2015 after being acquired in the Rick Porcello trade. He hit .293 with 18 homers before being dealt to the Mets in the trade for Michael Fulmer.
Now 35, Cespedes opted out of 2020 after hitting .131 with two home runs in 31 at-bats; he cited COVID-19 concerns as the reason, but multiple reports pegged Cespedes as unhappy with his role (he was mostly set to be a DH) and lack of ability to reach incentive clauses in the final year of his massive four-year, $110 million deal with the Mets.
Regardless, the Yankees, Blue Jays, Brewers, Marlins, Rays, Reds, Cubs, White Sox, Padres and Braves were also reportedly in attendance for the showcase of an outfielder who hit .280 with 31 home runs in his last full season of 2016.
