Happy wife, happy life…and NBA title?
LeBron James to the Knicks was the hot rumor back in 2010 when LBJ eventually took his talents to South Beach, with the 'Bockers reportedly rolling out the celebs for a Sopranos-based recruiting vid. LeBron and "The Heatles" went to four straight NBA Finals and won a pair of titles, so it was worth it then…but did a different associate sink LBJ's second flirtation with the Knicks?
Vanity Fair's Lisa Robinson, on a recent episode of Brian Windhorst's "Hoop Collective" podcast, said that LeBron courted NYC again in 2018 before signing with the Lakers – and it was his wife, Savannah, who preferred Los Angeles and convinced him to head west.
"We heard that LeBron wanted to come to New York. And I have really good sources about this, that he was thinking about coming to New York but that his wife wanted to be in Los Angeles, wanted the kids to go to school in Los Angeles, and that just kiboshed the whole thing," Robinson said on the podcast.
LeBron had been linked to the Lakers in the past, too, as he owned a home in LA prior to signing there, and it had been reported in the past that Savannah James wanted to be there full-time.
Of course, LeBron's Lakers won the NBA title, his fourth, last year in the bubble, and with LA beating Golden State earlier this week to qualify for the 2021 playoffs, the dream of a Lakers-Knicks finals lives.
