In an early Tuesday morning surprise, the Giants and Saquon Barkley have agreed to a one-year, $11 million deal, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
The deal, just under $1 million more than the $10.05 million franchise tag that Barkley otherwise would have had to play under this season, also comes with a $2 million signing bonus, and ends negotiations on a new deal that stretch back to the bye week of last season.
After last week's deadline came without a contract agreement, it appeared as if Barkley was set to hold out of training camp, with sitting out games even seen as an option, as the star running back looked to gain more financial security at a position that has decreased in financial value across the league in recent years.
Barkley, finally healthy, returned to being a 1,000-yard rusher last season, and was a massive part of the Giants offense alongside Daniel Jones, helping Big Blue to a surprising playoff berth.
Now, worries of Barkley potentially missing games are no more.
