Things are looking good for Saquon Barkley to start the season on time.

The New York Giants running back is “close to being fully cleared” to play against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

While the prognosis looks good, Barkley still needs to make it through Thursday’s practice with the team’s approval before he is locked in as RB1.

If Barkley plays Week 1 it will be nearly one year to the date of when he tore his ACL in a Week 2 matchup against the Chicago Bears last year on Sept. 20.

It also remains uncertain if Barkley will be used freely with no restrictions or if he will be limited in any way if he is to return by Week 1.

The Giants and Barkley have remained overly cautious in his rehab and road back to the field.

A healthy Barkley would be a great help for the Giants, especially for third-year quarterback Daniel Jones, who will have one of the best rushers in his backfield as a weapon for the 2021 season.
