The Mets are eight games back of a playoff spot entering the last week of June, and seemingly finding new ways to lose on a daily basis.
Gio's solution? Cut your losses and blow it up.
"They're not gonna go out there buy at the trade deadline now," Gio said. "Are you kidding me? They already traded Eduardo Escobar and ate all his money to get the prospects they wanted. They are finished, man. It's over. It's the last week of June, and I don't want to hear it from anybody…the Mets are dead.
"It would be a true miracle…they're not good enough, they're constructed poorly, their manager is complete confused right now, their general manager doesn't know how to fix anything."
So, it's time to start unloading the team's high-priced veterans, starting with Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander.
"Get rid of these losers," Gio said. "That's where you want to start. You want to make some real change, get rid of those guys. what are you gonna do, bring these two schmucks back next year for $40 million? That's just stupid."
Many thought the Mets would be looking to add the final missing pieces of a World Series team at the trade deadline, but Gio says it is now time to punt on the season for the sake of the future.
"You should be talking about next year. This season is over," Gio said. "All the front office should be talking about is how to make sure this doesn't happen next year. Either tear this thing completely down and go from there, or fill in the pieces and try to compete next year. That should be the question."
