Guardians land No. 1 pick in 2024 MLB Draft lottery
Number one draft spot will be first in franchise history
The Cleveland Guardians have landed the first overall pick in the 2024 MLB amateur draft.
The Guardians' selection was determined on Tuesday in MLB's second-ever draft lottery, held at the league's Winter Meetings in Nashville, Tenn.
Cleveland, who finished with a 76-86 record in 2023, held 2% odds of landing what will be their first No. 1 draft pick in franchise history. The team has held the number two overall pick five times - most recently, in 1992.
The top six picks of the 2024 draft, as determined by the lottery, are as follows:
1. Cleveland Guardians (76-86 in 2023)
2. Cincinnati Reds (82-80)
3. Colorado Rockies (59-103)
4. Oakland Athletics (50-112)
5. Chicago White Sox (61-101)
6. Kansas City Royals (56-106)
The A's, Rockies, and Royals all held better than 18% odds of landing the No. 1 pick, despite none finishing higher than third in the draft order.
The 2024 MLB Draft lottery will be held in July 2024 in Arlington, Texas.
