Hawks reach agreement with Nate McMillan as full-time head coach

Nate McMillan is going to stick around.

Atlanta Hawks president Travis Schlenk told reporters on Monday that the team has reached an agreement to make McMillan the full-time head coach, removing the interim label after he took over during the middle of the 2020-21 season.

It is a four-year deal, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

McMillan replaced Lloyd Pierce, whom the team fired mid-way through the season. The Hawks finished the regular season 27-11 under McMillan and clinched the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference.

Atlanta then went on a run in the postseason, defeating the Knicks and top-seeded Philadelphia 76ers to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals, where they fell to the Milwaukee Bucks in six games.

McMillan, 56, has previously been a head coach with the Seattle SuperSonics, Portland Trail Blazers and Indiana Pacers.
