The Atlanta Hawks’ season has been dealt a major blow.
Trae Young is expected to undergo surgery to repair a ligament tear in the fifth finger of his left hand and will be re-evaluated in four weeks, the team announced on Sunday.
Young, fresh off of third All-Star appearance, was averaging 26.4 points and 10.8 assists per game this season, although the team has struggled even with him in the lineup, entering Sunday in 10th place in the Eastern Conference - the final spot for a play-in game berth.
If Young is healthy enough to return at the four-week mark, he would be able to play in the team’s final 11 regular-season games. Of course, that would be the best-case scenario.
