Some of you may recall former MLB pitcher Steve Trachsel, who many derisively referred to as the "Human Rain Delay" for being one of the sport's slowest workers. Bryson DeChambeau has attracted similar criticism for his molasses pace on the links, taking an eternity between shots.
The NBA equivalent to this would have to be Bucks All-Star Giannis Antetokounmpo, whose film-length free-throw trips have garnered significant attention throughout the NBA Playoffs. The reigning MVP was whistled for a rarely-seen violation in Game 1 of Milwaukee's first-round series against Miami, forfeiting his second free throw by going over his allotted 10 seconds at the charity stripe.
Giannis, for all his strengths as a player, has never been a particularly adept free-throw shooter, converting just 71.1 percent of his career attempts. Lately, the 26-year-old has taken a more deliberate approach, though so far, his efforts have only yielded mixed results (67.8-percent success rate this postseason). Antetokounmpo's free-throw routine was a discussion point during Thursday's Game 3 with TNT tracking his time between shots through the use of a "free throw clock."
Antetokounmpo was hearing it from Heat fans too, who mocked the 6'11" forward by counting in unison during his free-throw tries. The trolls at American Airlines Arena can taunt Giannis all they want, but it's not going to erase their 3-0 series deficit. The Bucks can finish off the Heat, who upset them in the second round of last year's playoffs, once and for all with a win in Game 4 Saturday at 1:30 PM ET.
