Rockets guard Sterling Brown was the victim of an assault on Sunday night in Miami, the team announced late Monday afternoon.
"He had no prior knowledge of or interaction with the assailants," the team said in a statement. "He suffered facial lacerations but will make a full recovery."
A knee injury has kept Brown off the floor since April 10 and he had already been ruled out of Monday's game against the Heat. Rockets head coach Stephen Silas wouldn't expand on what team team announced when meeting with reporters Monday evening, but did say that he has spoken with Brown and that he'll be ok.
"It's heart wrenching," Silas said. "Rips your heart out. One of your guys, someone on your team that you care about. Someone that you're with every day. We're all just thankful that he's going to be okay, but also down about what happened."
Brown, 26, is averaging 8.2 points per game in first first season with the Rockets.
