“JT Daniels is in the COVID Protocol and it is believed he tested positive," Riley said. "The wide view is important here because JT is vaccinated. The way college football has essentially run this year is that you do not have to be tested unless you are showing symptoms. This leads you to believe he was showing symptoms."

The Athens Banner-Herald has reported that Daniels did indeed test positive. Riley laid out how soon he could return.

“There’s a 10-day quarantine period regardless of vaccine status if you are showing symptoms. Theoretically, if he showed symptoms Monday and tested positive Tuesday, 10 days from that is December 30, the day before UGA’s game against Michigan," Riley said. "JT will be right up against the deadline to be eligible to play."

UGA will face Michigan in a College Football Playoff Semifinal matchup Friday, December 31 with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m. ET.
