Coincidentally, Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson was at Villanova to be honored with his jersey retirement when he found out that his college teammate Josh Hart had been traded to New York.
Brunson’s live reaction was caught on camera, and it was priceless.
Brunson was shown the news on someone else’s cellphone, and his eyes turned big as he yelled, ‘Oh, s--t!’ Before celebrating with everyone around him, and checking his own phone just to be sure.
Brunson and Hart were teammates with the Wildcats before Hart graduated following the 2016-17 season, and was drafted in the first round by the Jazz. He was acquired by the Knicks on Wednesday night for Cam Reddish, a protected first-round pick, and multiple depth pieces to help shed salary to bring in Hart.
Hart will immediately file in to Tom Thibodeau’s rotation, as his well-known defensive ability and his standing as an elite rebounding guard is seemingly a perfect fit for what the Knicks head coach wants in his group.
But Thibodeau still may not be as excited as Brunson was when he learned about the trade.
