Jason Kelce’s assessment of the state of the Eagles offense can pretty much be boiled down to one word: inconsistent.

Philly’s offense has flatlined the last few weeks, managing just 49 points combined across losses to the 49ers, Cowboys and Seahawks. Jalen Hurts seems out of sorts, the offense as a whole has struggled to create big plays, and promising drives have stalled out more often than usual.

The Eagles’ issues go well beyond just the offense, but that unit has done little to help offset the shortcomings elsewhere. Kelce on Wednesday gave his take on what has felled the offense during his weekly appearance on the 94WIP Morning Show.

“I think we are inconsistent,” Kelce said. “We do some things really well at times, and then we have either penalties or turnovers or whatever are really stalling us out. Teams are forcing us to take a lot of underneath stuff right now. They’re playing a lot of quarters, they’re playing a lot of really soft coverage, which kind of have limited some of our big plays, right? When you take that away, the first half we had two eight-minute drives where we go all the way down. We should have had two touchdowns if it wasn’t for my bonehead play on the quarterback sneak.

“So, yeah, those are two long drives and it’s hard to do that consistently in this league. We should be able to, we’re an NFL offense with a lot of great players, we have to be able to do that. We’ve got to find a way though to also create explosive plays, especially in the air even when teams are playing quarters. We’re doing our best to figure that out and get back to the offense we’ve been in previous years.”

The good news for the Eagles is that they play a soft opponents down the stretch, facing the Giants twice as well as the Cardinals. That should allow for some time to try to get things back on track before the postseason, but they nevertheless are running out of runaway to get the offense off the ground.
