The Martian has finally landed.
Maybe not the spectacular pro debut some would have hoped for or wanted, but indeed, Jasson Dominguez finally played his first professional baseball game on Monday, suiting up for the Yankees' affiliate in the Florida Complex League (formerly the Gulf Coast League).
Dominguez, who is the Yankees' consensus No. 1 prospect, was 0-for-2 with a walk in a game that has been much-discussed since the switch-hitting outfielder signed for a $5.1 million bonus in 2019.
Leading off and playing center field against the Tigers' affiliate, Dominguez struck out swinging in his pro at-bat, then popped out to third with one on and one out in the third. The 18-year-old then walked with one on and one out in the fifth, and advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches before being stranded.
Dominguez was then pinch-hit for in the seventh inning, and finished with six innings played, three plate appearances, and two putouts in center.
