Amid reports that he acted like a “diva” in the Mets clubhouse and complained that the team’s analytics department lagged behind that of the Astros, Justin Verlander responded with a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Monday afternoon.
“I want to say I have nothing but respect for the Mets organization and I enjoyed connecting with all of my teammates this season…new and old!” Verlander posted, possibly referencing his former Tigers teammate Max Scherzer, who, according to the report by Mike Puma of the New York Post, didn’t always see eye to eye with Verlander during their brief reunion. “It truly was a group of wonderful people.
“That being said, we all know the success of a team is made up of more than just the players on the field. Everyone’s input is valuable. I’m sorry to hear that a staff member took offense to constructive criticism on how we could improve.
“Wishing nothing but the best to the Mets moving forward.”
Verlander was traded back to the Astros at the deadline, as a part of the Mets fire sale necessitated by a disappointing season that began with World Series aspirations thanks to a rotation led by Verlander and Scherzer.
