The Caps’ future Hall of Famer signed a one-day contract to play for his hometown soccer club, FC Dynamo Moscow, this past weekend to take part in a friendly match against a team called FC Amkal, which is a squad of Russian YouTube soccer vloggers.

The result, as you might expect, was a rout – 5-0 Dynamo – but the scoring column had an unfamiliar name: Ovechkin, as in Alex, who opened up the scoring 10 minutes in from the same side of the pitch where he usually does his damage on the ice:

Ovechkin may have not been as noticeable to those who can’t identify the Cyrillic alphabet, as he was wearing No. 3 instead of his usual 8 (a tribute to his father) and had his salt and pepper hair unencumbered by a helmet, but make no mistake, that was a left winger from the left side of the scoring zone like it has been many, many times in his NHL career.

The goal won’t add to the 780 that has him third on the NHL’s all-time list, but perhaps this great shoulder block could get him an invite from the Commanders for training camp:

Ovechkin only played in the first half, but he was voted MVP of the game by the fans, and now after living out one childhood dream, he’ll return to DC later this summer to start season number 18 with the Caps – and after netting 50 goals this past season, it may not take him long to get the 21 he needs to tie Gordie Howe for second place all-time, and the 114 he needs to tie Wayne Gretzky’s 894 for the all-time NHL mark is still seemingly within reach, too.
