Angel Reese couldn't stop making headlines as she helped drive LSU women's basketball to its first national title, and as of this week she's got a new title: Best Breakthrough Athlete.

Reese was named the winner of the ESPY award on Wednesday evening, beating out names including Iowa sharpshooter Caitlyn Clark, 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy and Mariners star Julio Rodriguez.

“I just want to thank LSU, my family, my teammates, my coaches, Kim Mulkey, everybody that helped me," Reese said in accepting the award. "Last year I transferred from the University of Maryland and came to LSU and I just joined a family."

Reese was a viral phenomenon during her sophomore season, her first in Baton Rouge, as she set a new NCAA record with 34 double-doubles. Reese was a unanimous first-team All-American and averaged 23 points and 15.4 rebounds per game. Reese's 830 points scored ranked third most in LSU history and here 555 rebounds set a new SEC record. The LSU women's squad was also one of eight nominees for best team

But Reese couldn't leave the stage without one more declaration for her LSU future: "Another natty is coming, period."
