Man attempts to steal Gayle Benson's car with her inside

A man allegedly tried to steal New Orleans Saints and Pelicans owner Gayle Benson’s car while she was still sitting inside the car.

A New Orleans Police report did not identify Mrs. Benson as the victim of the attempted auto theft, however, Saints and Pelicans spokesman Greg Bensel confirmed it was Benson.

“While she was very shaken at the time, she was unharmed and is doing fine,” Bensel said in a statement.

The police report says a white Nissan Titan parked next to car parked in the 6200 block of South Claiborne Avenue about 2:15 p.m. last Saturday. The unidentified man gets out of the Nissan and gets in to Banson's car in attempt to steal it. Police say Benson ordered the man to get out of her car. He would-be car thief then fled the scene in the Nissan truck.
