For the second time since it opened in 2020, a man has drowned in the lake outside of SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, according to local authorities.

Inglewood Police Lt. Cilia Islas shared with the LA Times that the unidentified man was believed to be in his early 20s and entered the lake at around 9:30 p.m. but never resurfaced.

In an effort to locate the missing man, a police dive team was dispatched to search the 15-foot-deep lake. Eventually, the man was located almost an hour and a half after he entered the lake.

Rescuers attempted to revive him using CPR, but they were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, Islas shared.

Police have classified the incident as an accidental drowning, though Islas has said that an investigation into the man’s death is ongoing.

“It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of an individual last evening,” SoFi Stadium officials shared a statement on the incident with the LA Times. “Our deepest condolences go out to the individual’s family and friends for their loss. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.”

On Friday night, the musician Illenium was performing at SoFi Stadium, which ended at around 11 p.m.

It was not made clear if the victim was attending the concert or not.

In July 2022, a 45-year-old died after jumping into the lake. The scene was caught on surveillance footage and showed the man jumping a fence to get into the stadium’s parking lot before entering the man-made lake.
