It appears Matt Patricia has found a new job, although there was some confusion around it Thursday afternoon before confirmation came.

The Philadelphia Eagles posted an update to their website on Thursday announcing that Patricia had been named the team's new Senior Defensive Assistant. However, the announcement was quickly deleted.

It appears that the hire will be happening, though, and that someone probably just jumped the gun on posting it. Meeting with the media a short time later, Eagles coach Nick Sirianni that while it's not official yet, things are "trending in that direction" of Patricia being hired.

A move back to the defensive side of the ball makes sense for Patricia, as that is where he has had the most success. Patricia served as the New England Patriots' defensive coordinator from 2012-17, helping them win two Super Bowls during that time.

Things haven't gone as well in other roles since then. He got fired in his third season as head coach of the Detroit Lions after going 13-29-1. He returned to the Patriots as a "senior football advisor" for a year before shifting to a prominent role on the offense this past season, coaching the offensive line and serving as the de facto offensive coordinator.

The experiment did not go well, with the Patriots offense looking out of step right from the jump in the preseason and quarterback Mac Jones taking a major step back in his second NFL season.

The Patriots hired a proven offensive coordinator in Bill O'Brien after the season, effectively ending the Patricia experiment. It was unclear if Patricia was going to remain in the organization in another role, but it now looks like he is destined for Philadelphia.
