A 78-year-old grandmother is showing us that strength has no age limit.
Nora Langdon, a grandmother and retired realtor, has a passion for lifting weights. According to Good Morning America, the grandmother can be found visiting the gym multiple times a week.
During her workout, the Detroit resident goes to the gym for 3 hours, where she does bench presses, deadlifts, and squats. However, she hasn’t always been this athletic.
In 2007, Langdon shared that she weighed over 210 pounds and struggled to exercise.
“I never went to a gym or picked up anything before the age of 65,” Langdon added. “On the first day I started [going to the gym], I went home that night and told myself that I’m never going back again because it was too much for me. Then I heard a voice saying, ‘Go back.’ So, I went back and here I am today.”
At first, Langdon started with a broom as a barbell and then eventually switched over to weights.
She is now Michigan’s best in her age range for powerlifting.
Langdon has won competitions with the American Powerlifting Federation, including one for squatting 413 pounds. She has earned records with state, national, and world recognition.
“I’ve beat everyone from 60 years old up to my age. I have no competition,” Langdon said.
Her workout videos have been popular on the internet, including Color Coded Voices, a page highlighting positive news about communities of color.
The superstar has won over 20 of her powerlifting meets and hopes to win more.
Langdon isn't stopping anytime soon, though. According to her trainer, Art Little, there's a larger goal Langdon hopes to beat.
"Her next goal is to do something that's unprecedented for her age: A powerlifting total of over a thousand pounds," Little said. "It's surprising because you'd think as someone gets older, they'd get weaker. But that's not the case because she puts the time in the gym and works hard."
