Michigan State's new running back was Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year

Make it two transfer running backs for Michigan State.

Two months after landing Wisconsin transfer Jalen Berger to help fill the shoes of Kenneth Walker III, Mel Tucker and the Spartans have landed Colorado transfer and former Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year Jarek Broussard.

Broussard, who entered the transfer portal earlier this month after four seasons at Colorado, one of which was spent under Tucker, visited Michigan State over the weekend and announced his decision Sunday via Twitter.

A three-star recruit in 2018, Broussard didn't take the field at Colorado until 2020 due to two ACL surgeries. When he finally did, the 5'9 speedster led the Pac-12 with 895 rushing yards in six games -- 150 yards per game -- and was named the conference's Co-Offensive Player of the Year alongside Oregon State and future Lions running back Jermar Jefferson.

Broussard wasn't as productive in 2021, but still led the Buffaloes with 661 rushing yards in 11 games while averaging 4.7 yards per attempt. He graduates from Colorado in May and will enroll at Michigan State in the fall.

The Spartans will hope the tandem of Broussard and Berger can fill the hole left behind by Walker, who finished second in the country in rushing after transferring from Wake Forest and is headed to the NFL.

Michigan State also added former Illinois tight end Daniel Barker via the transfer portal on Monday. Barker, who was poised to turn pro before opting to transfer, caught 18 passes for 202 yards and four touchdowns last season. He also holds the Illinois record for career touchdowns (11) by a tight end, one of which was a game-winning score against Michigan State in 2019.

The 6'4 Baker will help the Spartans replace fellow tight end Connor Heyward, who has declared for the NFL Draft.
