Mike Valenti: MSU's Mark Dantonio Doesn't Look Long For His Job

In case you missed it, 97.1 The Ticket's Mike Valenti unleashed on his beloved Michigan State Spartans on Monday, after a disappointing Saturday loss.

He didn't rage or scream or yell. He did something worse. He explained why he can't get passionate about the team and the product they're putting on the field anymore.

It was brutal.

"Mark Dantonio has taken it from me, it's impossible to care about a dishonest product," Valenti said, adding the offense hit rock bottom last year after several years of the same and "Mark Dantonio said 'F You, I'm not firing anyone.'"

"The bottom line is everything good in life comes to an end and I'm not ranting and raving, I'm not saying he should be fired. He won't be fired, it's a dumb conversation. He's the greatest coach in school history and what should happen and what will happen are two different things. But what took place Saturday was an embarrassment. It was a total and utter embarrassment. It was on par with anything John L or R or Bobby did and I'm sorry he just does not look like a guy who's long for this job."

In a perfect world, Dantonio would have been making changes instead of being obtuse, Valenti said. He would have reinvigorated the program and stuck around another five years.

But he didn't do any of those things.

The field goal at the end? "You score seven points, you don't have a right to cry. You sound like stupid, whiny bitches ... The product that was on that field is substandard garbage."

In sum, Valenti said Dantonio is putting his own agenda above the team's health and it shows. He should walk gracefully off the field and into school history.

"Here's the point, it's time," Valenti said. "I can love everything Mark Dantonio has done, I'll donate when they decide to build a statue. It's not mutually exclusive, but it's time to go. I hope it goes respectfully and with class and I hope he just retires and I hope the fan base doesn't turn gross ... But it's time."
