(WWJ) Michigan running back Donvan Edwards is under fire over an anti-Semitic tweet.
Edwards has since apologized for the social media post, which was a re-tweet of something posted by rapper, producer and fashion designer Kanye West.
Edwards said he did not mean to retweet the comment by West, who now goes by Ye, explaining himself in a tweet Thursday morning.
"The retweet was a glitch," he wrote. "I speak for myself. I know what’s in my heart. I am unequivocally against racism, exploitation & oppression in all forms, including stereotyping and trafficking in hate. I have nothing but love for others & I never judge anyone based on race or religion."
After this incident, WWJ Newsradio 950's Sandra McNeill spoke with University of Michigan Regent Jordan Acker, who is Jewish.
Acker said he thinks Edwards is a good kid, who just made a mistake.
"The level of speech by Kanye West was abhorrent," he told McNeill. "It absolutely stings and it hurts to hear hate speech that, you know, I thought was confined to a history book, and unfortunately it's not. And that's why it needs to get snuffed out as quickly as possible."
Edwards said he spoke with Michigan Football Coach Jim Harbaugh, who said the entire team will be visiting the Holocaust Museum after this season, so they can learn about Jewish history.
