The Texas Coast offense has been a revelation for Dak Prescott. From Mike McCarthy’s perspective, it’s the product of cohesiveness across the offense.
McCarthy took over play calling duties and revamped the offense over the offseason after the Cowboys split with Kellen Moore. Early on the new look faced criticism for being too simple, but the results as the season have gone on have been tough to argue.
Prescott looks like a true MVP candidate as he has the best season of his career, while the offense as a whole is first in the league in points per game and fourth in yards per game.
Praise around Prescott has been effusive, and McCarthy on Friday outlined why things are going so smoothly on Shan & RJ.
“I just think that we're all on the same page, that’s the beauty of this game,” McCarthy said. “There are fundamentals that we all teach, but there’s usually another variation of one as far as techniques and fundamentals. It’s no different with quarterback play. Every position that’s being coached in the game of football, everybody is trying to play faster and with more clarity. It’s really pulling the whole group together to accomplish that.
“How we dissect and detail our plays is different than it was the last couple years, and Dak’s having success with it. It really all comes down to the consistency in the coaching and most importantly the players. Dak is the lead dog in the room, there’s total buy-in and they’re having success with it.”
