After watching the 4 Nations Face-Off game between the United States and Canada last Saturday, Mike Valenti came away with a couple opinions: "One, candidly, had enough of this whole Canadian thing, this whole booing of the anthem."
The crowd at the Belle Centre in Montreal lustily booed the American anthem before the start of the game, which has become customary in Canada since U.S. President Donald Trump said he wanted to make the country to the north "the 51st state" and raise tariffs on imports from Canada.
"The players don’t make policy. And if it weren’t for us you’d be speaking Russian. So cut it out. Enough of you," says Valenti. "Second of all, getting bullied at your own sport on your own ice is not a great look. Three fights, nine seconds, and the whole game turned when (Connor) McDavid got assassinated. And Canada got nothing the whole third period. Everything was snuffed out, just stamped out — nothing. I can’t wait for Thursday."
Valenti went on to mock the crowd for turning quiet in the third period as the U.S. salted away a 3-1 win: "Where are these Canadian super-fans? It was like an effing library in the place. What’s up with that, eh? This is your sport. You’re better than we are, right? But they gotta stop booing the anthem, I’ve had enough. And then in turn we start booing theirs, which has no place, but they started it.
"They’re annoying, because they want to pretend they’re classier than we are, and they’re 'your friendly neighbor up North.' Here’s the reality: they’re a bleep-hole just like we are. You know what Canadians are? They’re the U of M of international people. They want to tell you they’re better than you are, but they’re really scumbags just like you."
