NFL is reportedly considering an 'all-day football-fest' TV event for July 31

nfl

Late July is usually a slow time on the sports calendar (although this year is a little different due to COVID pushing the NBA schedule back) and the NFL is looking to capitalize on that.

According to NBC Sports' Peter King, the league is strongly considering an "all-day football-fest" for Saturday, July 31 — a day when every team will be in training camp.

Of course, it would still be rather early in training camp — most teams report July 27 — and it will likely be an "acclimation period" in which there is no contact, no helmets, etc.

Yet, the idea, per King, would be one day of around-the-clock coverage — likely on NFL Network — starting early in the morning and ending late at night where they would pop in and out of all 32 training camps throughout the day, airing live footage from each camp and breaking down and discussing the key storylines and players for each team.

It would be the league's way of creating an all-day TV and digital event in which it can celebrate and ramp up excitement of football being back.

King noted that none of this is set as of yet, but it is something that the league wants to do and is still figuring out the best form to do so.

There are plenty of interesting storylines ahead of training camp this year that would be worth following: will rookie quarterbacks like Justin Fields and Mac Jones start in Chicago and New England? Will Aaron Rodgers be at Packers training camp? How is J.J. Watt fitting in with the Cardinals? How do Trevor Lawrence and Tim Tebow look in Jacksonville? And plenty more.
