ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Featured member of Sunday Night Football on NBC and creator of ProFootballTalk.com, one of the most popular NFL news sites, insider Mike Florio pulled no punches in discussing the league and LA Rams relocation lawsuit with KMOX.
Florio reported this weekend that a possible settlement in the lawsuit filed by the region of St. Louis could be an expansion NFL team being awarded to the irritated city. He says that been discussed "in league circles" as a better option than paying possibly $1.5 billion to St. Louis if the NFL loses the lawsuit.
He also joined our Kevin Wheeler on Sports Open Line to promote his upcoming book: Playmakers: How the NFL Really Works (And Doesn't). The book is an inside look through his league contacts and sources about how the NFL really operates.
"My favorite way to put that in perspective is to focus on the slogan that we hear from time to time from the NFL, which is, Football is Family. And that's just a load of crap," Florio says. "That's a marketing plow. It's good for business to say 'Football is Family' so people don't realize football is business.

"At the end of the day that's really all there is. There's no loyalty to a fanbase beyond the extend to which the NFL thinks it can soak money out of that fanbase. It's that simple. And the moment that the NFL thinks that it can make more money off of a different fan base and there's an owner who's willing to go canter to that fan base and abandon the first one, they'll do it. Because that's exactly what happened to you folks in St. Louis."
That last bit really isn't anything new to what the residents in St. Louis have learned over the past seven years since the Rams left. But it probably feels good for a national reporter to say it without hesitation.
