The Patriots made waives on Tuesday.

In a stunning move, the Patriots waived QB Bailey Zappe according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Zappe played in four games as a rookie in 2022, starting two and completing 70.7% of his passes for five touchdowns and three interceptions. There was a thought that he could compete for New England's number one quarterback job, but a rough preseason in 2023 led to his release.

This led some to assume that rookie Malik Cunningham would be the primary backup, but he too was released on Tuesday according to The Athletic's Jeff Howe.

Both quarterbacks will have to clear waivers before being signed to New England's practice squad.

For now? Mac Jones is not only the Patriots' QB1, but he's also their 1 QB.
