According to multiple reports, Penn State Football has its next coach.
Penn State is reportedly in the final stages of hiring Iowa State Head Coach Matt Campbell.
ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel reports that they still need to agree to terms and “formal approval of compensation.”
Campbell has led the Cyclones to a 72-55 record during is decade at Iowa State.
Prior to Iowa State, Campbell coached Toledo to a 35-15 record over five years.
Penn State reportedly heavily pursued several other candidates and were rejected each time.
“I think they got the best remaining option,” said Donny Football, reacting to the news.
If Campbell gets the job, he will be tasked with doing something former coach James Franklin was unable to do, get the Nittany Lions to a National Championship.
Franklin’s team lost in the semifinal last year to Notre Dame and this season, Franklin was fired after a disastrous start.
