PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – George Pickens said it’s not an effort thing from his standpoint, rather it’s people that haven’t played in the NFL that are questioning his effort.
“The people that are questioning my effort,” Pickens said. “They don’t play football. They do what y’all do.”
Asked about what the team is doing to try to improve the offense?
“Like I said, everybody that got opinions are all media, surface guys,” Pickens said. “None of them play football. They are never going to be in the NFL, they are just media guys.”
Asked if he still is fighting preconceived notions about him coming out of college?
“The reason I would be still fighting it because it’s a lot of guys not playing ball,” Pickens said. “Not playing the game of football, just media guys having an opinion.”
Asked what he saw on the Jaylen Warren run and if he would like to do anything differently (it’s when he appeared to have an opportunity to block near the goal line and didn’t).
“I was trying to prevent the (Houston Texans WR) Tank Dell situation, the same thing that happened to Tank Dell,” Pickens said. “You stay and block too long you can get run up on very easily.”
Asked about where he has grown in his second year and parts of his game people may not recognize that has improved.
“Just the blocking thing, I remember all of the media-type guys who don’t play ball, was talking about blocking last year like ‘I’m such a good blocker’, ‘I’m such a good blocker’,” Pickens said. “Now they want to say differently. I would say look at the yardage, look at the catch radius, look at the run after catch. A lot of stuff.”
Asked about dealing with frustrations of how media might be perceiving his game different than he is?
“Everybody is mad when you lose,” Pickens said. “Like I said a lot of media guys want to say it’s my frustrations that we’re losing. I’m pretty sure the whole team is mad just like me.”
