It would have been cool to see the 76ers new City Edition uniforms for the 2021-22 season when they dropped as non-fungible tokens (NFTs), as announced in a press release last week. But an early sneak peek via a leak — these are unintentional rhymes, by the way — is a pretty cool alternative.
The person responsible for the leak was Charles Bassey, who just signed a deal with the 76ers after getting selected with the No. 53 pick in the 2021 draft. The buzz on Twitter is that Bassey posted a picture on his Snapchat featuring a previously unseen jersey design, and the threads quickly made their way onto social media.
If accurate, the jersey in the leaked photo is a dark blue uniform with bright red lettering and a distinctive four-color bar running along the side, which is reminiscent of the old Spectrum Arena logo.
There's one big mistake about the above jersey, and it's that the name featured is a player who will likely never don such a jersey again, but I digress. The main story here is the actual design, and as Michael Tanenbaum of Philly Voice notes, these leaks seem to line up with the Sixers' tease that the City Edition uniform "commemorates an iconic time in 76ers history."

Seeing as the 76ers played their home games at the Spectrum from 1967-1996 — the time frame that included their most recent NBA Finals victory, in the 1982-83 season, and featured such stars as Julius Erving, Moses Malone, Charles Barkley and others — these uniforms seem to fit the bill. Though you can only see three colors in Bassey's Snapchat image, the red-orange-green sequence lines up with the Spectrum's old logo, seen below on the right side of the arena.
