It is unclear what the cause of death was but police said there were no signs of trauma or foul play suspected at the time.

“We are profoundly saddened by the tragic passing of Jaylon Ferguson,” the team said in a statement. “He was a kind, respectful young man with a big smile and infectious personality. We express our heartfelt condolences to Jaylon’s family and friends as we mourn a life lost much too soon.”

Many of Ferguson’s Ravens teammates and those around the NFL reacted to news of his passing on social media.

Ferguson was a third-round pick of the Ravens in 2019 after starring at Louisiana Tech, where he earned the nickname “Sack Daddy” for setting the FBS record of 45 career sacks.

In three seasons with the Ravens, Ferguson compiled 67 tackles and 4.5 sacks. He had participated in the Ravens offseason training activities throughout the spring and reportedly had cut weight and was in good shape.

He is survived by his wife, Doni Smith, and three children – all under the age of 5.
