Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Shane Bieber has been transferred to the 60-day injured list and will be out through at least early September.
The Cleveland ace was initially placed on the 15-day injured list after being diagnosed with right elbow inflammation. Though not expected to undergo surgery, Bieber (5-6, 3.77 ERA this season) is midway through a two-week non-throwing period and will not be eligible for activation until Sep. 10.
In moves corresponding with Bieber's transfer, the Guardians have selected the contract of left-hander Daniel Norris from Triple-A Columbus, while fellow southpaw Tim Herrin has been optioned to the minors.
The Guardians, now without two of their top starters (including right-hander Triston McKenzie) for at least the next few weeks, are 49-50 heading into Monday night's game against the Kansas City Royals.
