New York Mets manager Buck Showalter offered a very calm, rational explanation Thursday for why he's now leaning on Cookie Monster as his lead navigator.
Courtesy of Matthew Roberson of The New York Daily News, Showalter explained his thinking in turning to the popular "Sesame Street" character who is obsessed with eating cookies to be the voice of his Waze app:
It's hard to argue with that logic.
The Mets are off to a 25-14 start in their first season under Showalter, giving them a comfortable lead in the National League East. When you consider that the Mets have done all this without two-time NL Cy Young Award winner Jacob deGrom, Showalter is probably the early favorite to win NL Manager of the Year, an honor he's won three times in the American League.
Showalter enters the day with 1,574 career wins, good for 23rd in MLB history. Having previously managed the New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks, Texas Rangers and Baltimore Orioles, the only thing missing from the 65-year-old's legacy is a World Series title.
