Stephen Vogt announced as new Cleveland Guardians manager
First managerial job for former MLB catcher, who spent last season as Seattle coach
The Cleveland Guardians are hiring Stephen Vogt as their new manager.
The club announced on Monday morning that Vogt would be the 45th manager in their franchise history, after former manager Terry Francona stepped down following the end of the 2023 regular season.

Vogt, 39, will be a first-time manager of an MLB team, having joined the Seattle Mariners as their bullpen and quality control coach last season. Vogt joined Seattle following the end of his 10-year playing career, in which he earned a pair of All-Star appearances (2015-16) with the Oakland Athletics. Vogt was also part of the Atlanta Braves team that won the 2021 World Series championship.
"We're thrilled to welcome Stephen and his family to Northeast Ohio and to name him the next manager of the Cleveland Guardians," said Chris Antonetti, President of Baseball Operations. "Stephen earned a reputation as one of the best teammates in the game across his 16-year career as a player, and we've greatly enjoyed the opportunity to get to know him over the past several weeks."

Vogt will take over after Francona's 11-year tenure with Cleveland, in which the club earned six postseason trips and an AL pennant in 2016. Francona left as the winningest manager in franchise history, and the second-longest tenured manager/coach in Cleveland sports history, behind Paul Brown.
The Guardians will introduce Vogt at a press conference in Progressive Field's Discount Drug Mart Club on Friday, Nov. 10.
