Survey says Cowboys, Patriots fans most likely to cry over team

There is no doubting the passion that comes with being an NFL fan, but for some fanbases, that passion comes with an emotional toll.

In a recent survey conducted by Lineups, more than 2,000 fans were asked around the country which teams have the saddest fans that are most likely to cry.

The results are in, and America's Team tops the list.

The Dallas Cowboys were voted as the saddest fan base and one most likely to cry over their team with the New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers coming in at Nos. 2 and 3, respectfully.

While the Cowboys have five Super Bowl titles in franchise history, the last one came in 1994 and the team has yet to get back to the NFL's biggest stage, which has clearly taken a toll on a fanbase that expects to win.

They've lost in painful ways, too. There was the infamous "Did Dez catch it?" game, the Tony Romo botched field goal snap and Mason Crosby's game-winning, 51-yard field goal.

The Patriots atop the list is a little more head-scratching. The fans are certainly invested and expect to win just like Cowboys fans, except the Patriots actually do it.

They've won six Super Bowls since 2001, although the franchise golden boy Tom Brady has found a second home with the Tampa Bay Bucs these last two years.

The survey also said that 36% of respondents cried tears of joy watching their team win a Super Bowl while 17% say they cried if their favorite player left the team. Pats fans seem to fit under this category.

Here's the rest of the top 10 in the survey:

1. Dallas Cowboys

2. New England Patriots

3. Green Bay Packers

4. Philadelphia Eagles

5. Pittsburgh SSteelers

6. Cleveland Browns

7. Detroit Lions

8. New York Jets

9. Chicago Bears

10. Kansas City Chiefs

The survey was conducted in Nov. 2021. Fans were asked if they ever became emotionally upset while watching an NFL game and asked to rank the most miserable fan bases in the league. The respondents were split 50/50 between male and female with an average age of 37.
