Last week, Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady said he wouldn't be caught dead living in the Northeast anymore. The next day, a report surfaced that he and wife Gisele Bundchen had purchased a $17 million property on Miami's Indian Creek island, also known as "Billionaire Bunker."
Brady was talking about the weather when he made his comment about living in the Northeast, explaining how nice it was to still be practicing outside this late in the season and how a hoodie has sufficed on even the coolest Florida mornings.
Appearing on The Greg Hill Show Monday morning, CBS analyst and WFAN host Boomer Esiason said he thinks there's a different reason Brady won't ever be moving back to the Northeast, though.
"I think it’s all about taxes with him," Esiason said. "Him and Gisele, they spend a lot of money in taxes. That’s what I think it is. Like any of us who make any decent amount of money, all we have to is take a look at our paycheck and we say, ‘Where the hell is it going?’ I have no idea.
"I can understand why he would say that. And living in Miami and living on that billionaires row island would be a pretty cool thing. I think any one of us in his situation would probably do the same thing."
To that end, Florida has no state income tax. Massachusetts has a flat income tax of 5%, while states like Connecticut and New York (where Brady either has owned or has been rumored to own property in the past) have progressive income taxes with top brackets of 6.99% and 8.82%, respectively. Florida also has lower property taxes than the New England states or New York.
Brady and the Buccaneers beat the Vikings 26-14 on Sunday to improve to 8-5 on the season.
