Tom Brady will not do postseason work for FOX if Bucs miss playoffs, is 'year to year' on retirement

The only way you'll see Tom Brady on a FOX postseason broadcast next year is if he is playing in the game.

The seven-time Super Bowl champion quarterback, who inked a 10-year, $375 million contract with FOX to be a broadcaster once his career is over, made it clear in a recent interview with Variety that he will not be doing any media work if the Bucs are not in the playoffs.

"No," Brady said. "I want to focus on football. I really want to commit to this year to be as best as I possibly can."

When asked if it would be two or three years before we see Brady in the booth, the quarterback replied, "there's a chance. But I'm very close to the end."

Just how close is anyone's guess. Even Brady's.

The soon-to-be 45-year-old quarterback, who walked away from the game in February only to come back in March, acknowledged in the same interview he does not "have five years left" but is not sure when he will retire for good.

"I really don't," Brady said. "I would say it's year to year: Could this be my last year? Absolutely. Could I change my mind? Absolutely. I've realized I don't have five years left. I want to do it my way. I want to give it everything I got and see where I'm at.  Y body feels really good. I've had a lot of traumatic injuries over the years, but if things go really smoothly and we win, that'd be great."

Brady said he would have preferred to be making an unretirement announcement now rather after just 40 days, but felt — after speaking to members of the Bucs organization and his family — he had to make the call then.

"I would have preferred to un-retire in July if I wanted to play, but I couldn't," he said. "If I said I'm not playing, they'd make plans. So I felt there was a lot of pressure to make a decision quickly. And then ultimately, I just decided, 'Yes, let's do it.' And once I said that, it was like — OK, here we go."
